Cold calling raises

This is the best way to lose money in Texas Hold’em, simple as that. Whenever someone raises they are saying one thing really: I think my hand is better than yours. If you are not going to raise them right back, but you decide to call, you are basically saying that you believe them and that you don’t trust that your hand is better. So the question is why even call? Do yourself a favor and never cold call a raise again. This bad habit can chip away at your bankroll in just a few hours. Playing above your head

People who are playing in higher limit games are doing so because they are good enough to be there or they have money to burn and don’t care if they lose. This is an incredibly dangerous situation to someone getting in over their head. If you are playing with money that you are afraid to lose, then you can’t be an effective player. Professionals actively look for people playing in games that are too big for them. Stay within your means and move up only when you are financially ready and you have the skills to win.

Bluffing

Bluffing is a calculated move in poker that is meant to take advantage of a situation. You can just bluff because that’s what poker players are supposed to do. Going on tilt and losing your mind

Now this might not seem avoidable, but it certainly is. The trick here is to know yourself well enough that when things start to go south, you need to take a break. If you find yourself easily angered by losing pots or trash talk at the poker table, then this might not be the game for you. The best medicine for a losing session is to take a nice break and forget about cards for awhile. Once a bad session starts, it can go on for a long time and pretty soon you have basically conditioned yourself to lose, and this is very dangerous. Set a limit for yourself and find a way to get your head back in the game when things go bad. Usually the best way is to step away and take a break. If your losing session just never seems to end, head back to those poker books and read them over again; it will bring the important fundamentals back to the top of your mind.
